One year Anniversary of Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th, 2011
It has been one year since the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th, 2011.
The Japan Commerce Association of Washington DC (JCAW) and JCAW Foundation (JCAWF) express sincere sympathy to the victims and their families of the disaster. We would also take this opportunity to show our deep appreciation to everyone who has helped relief and recovery efforts over the past year.
Soon after the earthquake/tsunami took place, we at JCAW and JCAWF have been working to send donations to the victims and the affected areas. Thanks to your kind support, as of March 9, 2012, we have collected $344,979.3 from individuals, corporations and organizations. The donations received by March 31, 2011 have been forwarded to the Japanese Red Cross Society. After much deliberation, we have decided to send donations collected between April 1 and August 15, 2011, to the Japanese Red Cross Society and Japan NPO Center. By August of 2011, we have sent $335,675.11 to the aforementioned organizations.
The JCAW and JCAWF, as we pass the one year mark since the disaster, have decided to send the remaining donations to the following organization to continue our dedication of aiding the victims and reconstructing the affected areas. The Public Resource Center concentrates on long term aid of victims to reconstruct their lives. Remaining donations, as well as any new donations received by end of March 2012, will be forwarded to the Center.
For more information on the Public Resource Center and their activities, please see the link below.
We are accepting donations until the end of this month. Even after JCAW and JCAWF officially finish donation collection activities, we will continue to help reconstruction efforts as much as possible in other ways. The Cherry Blossom Centennial Initiatives that JCAW and JCAWF are currently planning is a timely opportunity to show appreciation to the American people, government and military, that has helped Japan through recovery and reconstruction efforts. If you have any comments and/or suggestions regarding activities to aid the affected areas and people, please let us know by contacting our office. We thank you for your continuing support.
